BEDIA shortlisted for Africa Investment & Business Leaders Awards
The Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority (BEDIA) has been shortlisted for the annual Africa Investor Investment and Business Leaders Awards under the category, “Investment Promotion Agency of the Year”. The Africa Investor awards have been running since 2004 and have been held in various African countries.
BEDIA is the focal point for investment and export promotions activities in Botswana and aims to promote diversification and industrialization of the economy. The Authority is also entrusted with the task of identifying market outlets for locally manufactured products and also construction of factory shells for setting up of manufacturing enterprises. In addition, BEDIA works closely with the Government of Botswana to ensure that the country has a conducive investment climate.
The Deputy Director of PR & Communications, Kungo Lentswe said;
“This as a milestone for our organisation and it is a result of our new strategic approach. The practice of investor targeting guided by our futuristic researches has seen us achieve our targets and beyond. The conversion of our existing investments and pipelines keeps increasing. We also pride ourselves in our export development programme that has assisted our domestic market to do business better than before”.

Other shortlisted organisations in the Investment Promotion Agency of the Year category include Uganda Promotion Agency, the Board of Investment (BOI) Mauritius, Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC). The 2009 Investment and Business Leaders Awards ceremony will take place
during a gathering of global finance and business leaders at the Africa investor CEO Forum and UNEP Finance Initiative Global Roundtable Gala Dinner on 22 of October, in Cape Town, South Africa at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
Last year’s Investment Promotion Agency of the Year award was won by Malawi Investment Promotions Agency (MIPA). The Durban Investment Promotion Agency (DIPA) and the Board of Investment (BOI) Mauritius were the joint first runner-ups while the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) was the second runner up.
