Educated Workforce The Government of Botswana has invested a lot of resources in the development and growth of the education system inline with the country's Vision 2016 pillar of "An Educated and Informed Nation". The standard of public education in Botswana is considered to be comparable to international standards.
Botswana's total investment in knowledge (including investment in public and private spending on higher education) has been increasing over the years. Owing to the tight budget as consequent to the effects of the global financial and economic crisis, the government of Botswana re-organized and identified priority areas that can be attended to first, while the economy recovers. The Education sector has proved such an area for the government with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development being allocated the largest share of 31.1% out of all ministries on the budget proposal for 2011/2012. The budget will among others cater for an increase in bursaries for post secondary students and opening of three new senior secondary schools. This demonstrates the commitment that the government has towards the education of its citizenry.
The adult literacy rate in Botswana currently stands at 82.9% which is above most SADC countries.
